Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL)

The medial collateral ligament (MCL) is a ligament in the knee that connects the thighbone to the shinbone. It provides stability to the inner side of the knee and can be injured due to sudden twisting or impact to the knee.

What causes Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL)?

MCL injuries are often caused by sudden twisting or impact to the knee, especially when the foot is planted and the knee is bent. It is also caused by direct impact to the outer side of the knee.

Ways to prevent Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL)
  • Strengthen the muscles around the knee through exercise and physical therapy.
  • Use appropriate protective gear such as knee braces and pads.
  • Warm up and stretch before physical activity.
  • Avoid sudden changes in direction or twisting movements.
