Ligament injuries

April 12, 2023

Ligaments are tough tissues that connect bones. The four main ligament in your knee are Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), Posterior curciate ligament (PCL), Lateral collateral ligament (LCL) and Medial collateral ligament (MCL). Of these the ACL is injured the most.

Symptoms

  • Sudden severe pain
  • A loud popping or snapping noise during injury
  • Swelling
  • Looseness of the joint
  • Inability to bear weight

Ligament injuries require immediate medical attention. Certain severe injuries such as ACL and PCL tearing or overstretching will require reconstructive surgery to restore stability.

If you have these symptoms after an injury or accident, consult a doctor at the earliest.
